Abstract

The era of disruption presents major challenges for education, including the rapid growth of information and communication technology, shifts in educational paradigms and graduate profiles, pressure from national and international rankings, and the influence of geopolitics on national education policy. This article examines the role of education that enlightens and dignifies the nation as the foundation for achieving Indonesia Emas 2045 (Golden Indonesia 2045), in line with the constitutional mandate. Education that enlightens is understood as transformative education that places learners at the center and is supported by transformative leadership, a progressive curriculum, a holistic paradigm, critical and reflective educators, transformative learning design and assessment, and a promising career path. Education that dignifies emphasizes the cultivation of civility (adab), the safeguarding of morals, and the strengthening of national spirituality, with higher education expected to move beyond the fourth generation of university evolution toward a fifth generation that enlightens and dignifies the nation. The article proposes four strategies for accelerating education: improving the quality of education delivery, expanding access and accelerating educational equity, strengthening education financing, and securing national economic support.
